Prenatal Massage

Aches and pains are part and parcel of every pregnancy. Physical discomfort, muscular stress, headaches, backaches, discomforts happen due to an increase in weight, shifting posture and hormonal agent levels. Prenatal massages aim to improve circulation, reduce pains and discomforts, ease muscular stress and other pregnancy-associated signs, improving expectant mom's mood and mental attitude.

Stress-related areas that usually need attention for mommies-to-be are back, neck and shoulders. Massaging the legs reduces blood pooling, and full body massage to the head/scalp, feet and hands helps to provide relief from muscle tension. Massage during pregnancy should involve light to moderate pressure. It's best to avoid deep pressure massage to prevent any additional stress placed on the body.

Experienced massage therapists choose techniques that are effective and safe and offer unique pampering and comfort. Prenatal massage provides many benefits such as:

  • Increases circulation
  • Enhances digestion
  • Reduces tiredness
  • Minimizes swelling in hands and lower legs, less calf cramps
  • Relieves backaches, headaches, shoulder and neck aches triggered due to muscular stress and postures to accommodate the increasing weight
  • Reduces discomfort in the pelvic/hip location
  • Reduces stress on weight-bearing joints such as knees, ankle and lower back
  • Promotes relaxation and deep breathing
  • Lowers stress hormones
  • Reduced sleeping disorders
  • Helps in keeping proper posture

Prenatal massage during pregnancy is useful emotionally as it enables soon to be mothers to loosen up, feel calm, healthy and comforted during a period of physical and psychological tension.

Prenatal massage can be done in a variety of positions. Once you are far enough along to no longer lie comfortably on your belly, we use the side-lying position, with a soft body pillow used for extra support.

Massage is usually safe for the majority of mothers, though it is recommended to check with your medical professional prior to getting one. If you have high BP or diabetes, prenatal massage is not performed. It is important that you inform your therapist if you have any problems or issues with your pregnancy.

* Prenatal massages cannot be performed during the 1st trimester, or at any time during your pregnancy, if you have high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia, diabetes, or any other condition that classifies you as a high-risk pregnancy. An additional prenatal massage waiver will be required prior to receiving massage therapy during pregnancy.

FAQ'S

How much does it cost?

Our Pre Natal Massages are : 60 minute massage is $80 and a 90 minute massage is $120.

What if the pressure is too deep?

Please tell your therapist immediately if the pressure is too deep (or too light). We're great massage therapists, but we haven't quite gotten the mind-reading thing down yet. You won't hurt our feelings to ask us to adjust the pressure to your liking (unless you tell us afterward, then we may cry a little.)

Can I get a prenatal massage anytime during my pregnancy?

For the safety of you and your baby, we cannot perform massage during your first trimester. Anytime during your 2nd and 3rd trimester is perfect for massage. Also, if you are considered high-risk, or have any blood pressure issues, diabetes, etc. we will need to wait until after you deliver for massage treatments. If you have any doubts, we recommend asking your OB/GYN prior to making your massage appointment.
